Ramsey McPhillips, aka The Landfill Slayer, has an B.A. from Bowdoin College in Environmental Studies and Creative Visual Arts.

While an undergraduate at Bowdoin, Ramsey was instrumental in advancing the college’s Environmental Studies program, independently raising the money necessary to hire its first Director. After a stint as a Mounted Ranger In New York’s Central Park, Ramsey moved to the Catskill Mountains and united stakeholders to prevent residential development in a vital aquifer that is crucial to NYC’s water system. After moving back to Oregon and onto his family’s farm, Ramsey discovered the toxic effects of a nearby landfill on the health of the adjacent Yamhill River and surrounding farms. He embarked on a 25-year crusade against Waste Management, the 200th largest corporation on the Fortune 500 list, as it was planning further expansion into an earthquake-prone riverbed of prime Oregon farmland. His effort coalesced fellow farmers, environmentalists, lawyers, scientists, politicians, community activists, and entertainment influencers to ultimately prevail in the Oregon Supreme Court. The closure of the Riverbend Landfill not only protected the vulnerable river and surrounding farmland but also resulted in eliminating one of Oregon’s largest emitters of methane gas.

TAINABLE is Ramsey’s farthest-reaching, most profound community-based effort to date. That is why he has dedicated the use of his family’s 570-acre farm to demonstrate and advocate what he believes is the most efficient way to lock carbon out of the atmosphere and into the soil. Ramsey founded TAINABLE to create, with full throttle urgency, a regenerative farm demonstration facility, using proven laboratory soil science from highly regarded scientists and innovators to stave off climate change in the next ten years.
